This was the second stop on our Sunday Happy Hour Bar Run. It seems like an unlikely place for vegetarians to drop in, but we saw the barbeque tofu sliders on the Happy Hour menue, and decided to give it a try. The Happy Hour here is 3-6, and features $3 selected shots, drafts, wine, and sliders. They also have 1/2 price appetizers, but, as you might expect, there isn't a lot for vegetarians to eat. The place is kind of small, but I liked the gingham tablecloths that gave the appearance of a more Southern smokehouse. It was really kind of rustic, and cute. My wife had the Snapshot Wheat, and I had the Butcherknife off the rotating tap. I like to try local products. We, of course, like our beers, and enjoyed the ambience, but the first bartender was a lot more attentive than the next. We just happened to be there between shifts, so we paid off our bill to allow our server to get the tip he earned. When his replacement came on, she never looked at us, acknowledged us, or even asked us if we wanted anything else. It was funny because she went out of her way to say "thanks" to other diners who were leaving, but, at the same time, seemed to make a concerted effort to look right through us as if we weren't there. I was wanting to ask her about the price of a shot of Don Julio 1942 that I saw at the bar, but I could never get her attention. Oh, well, we liked the BBQ tofu slider, but I'm not really sure it was worth $3.00. It was pretty small, as you expect sliders to be, but, usually, when you order sliders, you get at least three. This was $3.00 apiece as a Happy Hour Special, and that price was the same for any of three choices - two were meat, and the one tofu. The place had potential, and we liked it except for that woman who just started her shift. She probably didn't want to be there, and I can't blame her for that.

This was a great experience! The staff is friendly and helpful (and prompt). The food was fantastic (4 stars since I'm from St. Louis, we know Q), I had the 2meat combo with chopped brisket and jalapeño sausage. The brisket was moist and fall apart tender, the sausage was off the hook! It's made locally and smoked to perfection here. I had cole slaw and sweet potato fries, both of which were top notch. Our party ordered a variety of entrees and sides and everyone was very happy. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere was nice. As a bonus, they were replying the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill from the previous weekend(we're on a bike trip). WORTH A STOP IF YOU ARE A FAN OF SMOKED MEAT.

Awesome Spot! Ate here 3 times while visiting lately. We heard they had a great Happy Hour so the wife and I decided to check it out. Had the best beer selection that I saw in Steamboat, and had some amazing Desert wings. My wife got a salad with pulled pork on it and it was great. Met the owner Hazen and he gave some great ideas on things to do in Steamboat while we were on vaca. Super friendly guy who definitely knows his BBQ. Liked it so much that we can back for dinner with the whole family. Great place for kids and there was even live music. I recommend the Brisket, so tender and great smoke on it. Also loved the ribs and the Elk Sausage. Spent the last day exploring and didn't feel like going out that night so decided to get some food for takeout from you guessed it Steamboat Smoke House, I love this place.

Ever since the new owners took over the smokehouse the quality of food has gone through the roof! Plus the portions are ridiculously huge!

Amazing BBQ! I had the chopped pork sandwich with the fried okra and it was delish! The service was great with super friendly staff. Highly recommend.

We came here off a recommendation of a local. As we were strolling around downtown with out the use of a smart phone and therefore no yelp. I am really glad we followed the locals recomedo! Upon going in, the greeter/ host said there was a 45 min wait! Or we could sit at the bar right away. We opted for the bar. Glad we did. Because the bar had a blackboard with happy hour specials. Basically all apps are 1/2 off, $3 pulled pork sandy, brisket sandy, and $3 draught beers. The happy hour is from 3pm-6pm... Our server/bar tender was one of the nicest gals, and a very hard worker! She gave us some awesome recommendations! She said the wings are great, she was right! We got the gold wings and they are fantastic! She said try the smokies, and they were bacon wrapped amazingness!!! The only thing she didn't recommend was the sliders, and we would skip them next time! It was very nice to see they had Lagunitas IPA on tap as that's one of our home town favorites! And they were slanging it like crazy! That was cool to see so far from home! :) I really enjoyed seeing how hard the team was working! They are a well oiled machine, but I also got the vibe that they really value their customers!!! I loved sitting in the bar because our bartender Megan was so super cool and down to earth, she was really nice, and gave us great food recommendations, and things to do around town! Keep it up Megan! You went above and beyond, and besides the great food, and beer, having her serve us really made our day!!!!

I am so sorry to see what the Smokehouse has become. Sad to see the peanuts gone. Sad to see the cold schooners gone. Sad to taste the mediocre ribs. Just sad to see one of my favorite Steamboat restaurants reduced to mediocrity. Don't go.

LOVE! Go to spot when in the Boat. Great food, atmosphere and beer on tap. The new owner Hazen is totally bringing life back into the old spot, with killer BBQ. Had a super fun night with live music. Got the salad with pulled pork and then added beans. BBQ sauce options were spot on, tangy/sweet with just the right amount of kick. Delicious even when trying to eat healthy, they even have Smoked tofu if your not into meat. Cheese curds. Enough said, sooooo good. Came back next day for lunch just for the curds. Looking forward to coming back next time in town.

Had the Fish and Chips, which was the SPECIAL!! Three chunks of the toughest pre-packaged garbage I have EVER tried to chew. Real BAR_F FOOD. And the price? $11.95. I wrote it off to charity.

Best chicken tenders ever. Got them tossed in Buffalo Sauce. Fries are to die for. So glad we saw the Pink Pig by the road!!

Oh, Steamboat Smokehouse, you're not the smoked meat palace of old. Gone are the peanuts. Gone are the frosty teeth chattering mugs of icy root beer. Gone are the savory meats and BBQ sauces. This place is a sad ghost of its former glory beguiled by new owners who have foisted upon us new wave faux BBQ which poses as its former delicious self. Having gone here for years, no that would be decades, I am sorely disappointed. My disappointment knows no bounds and my sorrow is inconsolable. I will never set foot in this barren wasteland ever again -- short of a plea bargain for a very high misdemeanor or a felony. The new ownership has missed the mark by a mile and the results speak for themselves. The food is poorly seasoned and the sauce is bland. Bland being the most trenchant insult any fair speaking BBQ idolizer could ever plant on a BBQ establishment. I am as sorry as when I buried my beloved Airedale. This is a tragedy of monumental proportions and I mourn its passing. I will drown myself in good BBQ and sauce as soon as I return from SBS. Alas and alack!

The BEST BBQ in town! Not only is the BBQ amazing but the Sandwiches are to die for. I I enjoyed the Ruben with the baked beans. The staff is extremely friendly with cute girls serving and bartending.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Took us 2.5 hours to eat lunch and I would guess about 20mins to be served in the first place. The crowning glory of this place was us ordering the fried okra and, from our table, seeing our waitress reach across the counter, grab one out of our basket and pop it in her mouth. Glorious.

I will start this review by saying I am from Kansas City and I get to eat some of the best BBQ in the world any time I want. We met some locals from Steamboat here, so this place would not have been my first choice. This is no KC BBQ, but maybe it is decent for CO. I ordered the baby back ribs, but found out later that they were out of these (at 8:00 pm). So, I ordered the 2 meat plate instead. I had brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was pretty good, but dry, and the pulled pork had some fat in it. I took out about 5 chunks of fat. There is a mild and a spicy sauce. The spicy was a sweet, spicy and was pretty good. I had a salad and the corn medley (fresh vegetable of the night) for sides. The salad was kind of wilted and the corn was just not good. I tried the fries and the beans that my husband got for sides and they were both good. The fries are coated with a seasoning. My son had the wings (gold something) and he really liked them. The service was good, even though they were packed. We had a party of 8, called ahead and got a reservation. We were seated immediately when we arrived. Our waiter, Pete, was very attentive. The margaritas and beers come in a big goblet. I had the top shelf margarita with Grand Marnier and it was yummy. Would I go back, no. But someone who doesn't have access to awesome barbeque might enjoy this place. It's very fun and friendly - and I almost forgot to mention the peanuts!

    (2)
  • Sara E.

I did not enjoy the food. The brisket was tough and unless you out the BBQ sauce on it, flavorless. Same with the pulled pork. Not a fan. Rootbeer was very good.

One of many places on the main drag in Steamboat. Off the bat I liked the set up, its had a casual feel, with free peanuts and you can dump the shells on the floor. There are mounted heads of Buffalo, Antelopes, Deer, etc all around the room. We got there for lunch, and did the lunch special. The menu looked good, I had the sliced brisket, which was cooked well, as you could cut the meat with a fork. They serve it with two different BBQ sauces, one that was spicy! You'll have a few food options here. Overall the food was good, the service friendly, and the

Special today for lunch was Buffalo (actually Bison) Meat Loaf with mashed potatoes. Very good if a little spicy. Came with mashed potatoes but I subbed onion rings. Friendly and fast service. Love shelling peanuts and dropping them on the floor. They keep the small pails on the table full for your enjoyment.

  • Tim K.

Yes, PLEASE! The cheese curds are some good 'ol fashioned Milwaukee goodness; the chicken fingers are obviously house marinated and breaded, and when you add a little of their golden sauce your taste buds will jump for joy; the wings are always grilled crispy just right (golden and buffalo are my faves, though I haven't tried them all.) The pulled pork sliders I had were kind of naked and bland (mayo, cole slaw?) But aside from that I really can't find anything to complain about -- and I'm a good complainer. Oh, and they have Torpedo on tap for $3 during happy hour! You nailed it, guys. I don't know about the reviewer who says the old goodness is gone, but to me, they've really got it dialed in -- largely thanks to their awesome serving/bartending team. Keep it up, Smokehouse, you're doin' good.

  • Robert Y.

The new owners of the Smokehouse are doing a great job all around. The menu has expanded and the food is awesome! You will love the brisket, the ribs are out of control, smoked wings are insane and the beef red chilli is genius! Round it out with some sweet potato fries and a local craft brew and you can't go wrong. Service is great with a true local Steamboat vibe. They also do catering. We had them smoke our turkey for Thanksgiving for a little something different and it tasted amazing!

Some of the best BBQ around, and the wings are great as well. Killer happy hour, defiantly stop by when your in Steamboat

I had a great dinner with my wife. We shared the sampler and the Dry Rub Ribs were great! I'm a bar-BQ aficionado and nothing was bad. The sides could be improved with some good Mac & Cheese or Collard greens. I'd definitely go back!

Ribs are so soft they fall off the bone. Pulled pork sandwich is perfect! Even the potato salad was the best I had ever had! Great service and friendly staff.

A bit of a mixed bag, but overall a tasty meal, and very family-friendly. First for the casual diner: Super friendly service, bowls of in-shell peanuts on the table to snack on, huge goblets of margarita or beer, and enough variety for pretty much anyone to find something good to eat. Ask what the soup of the day is; our white bean with shredded pork was pretty fantastic. They also have some great take-out family meals to bring back to the condo if that is your preference. For the barbecue snob: they clearly actually smoke their meat here; the smoke rings were noticeable on all of the 'cue. I would pass on the brisket; it was dry and a little chewy compared to a good moist Texas brisket. The dry-rub ribs were solid though; tender but with a bit of chew, and the portion size was good. I didn't try any of the jalapeno sausage, but my dining companion did, and he was enthusiastic about it. Bottom line; decent, but a mixed bag in terms of authenticity.

  • Dan O.

I really liked the Smokehouse. The staff was very smiley and fun(bartender Megan). The wings were great. I tried the dry rub and the gold. Happy hour deals are smokin'. $3 drafts, $4 wells, half-price apps and wings. I'll be back... Nom-Nom!

Delicious!! Service was great and very fast even though the place was packed!! Loved the live music and atmosphere. Might even go back again for dinner tonight!

The Smokehouse is under new ownership and is better than ever. I'm partial to the Ribs, but the brisket is awesome too! This place has great food, friendly staff and a fun casual atmosphere. If you've never eaten here, or if you haven't been here since July 1st, 2014 you should give it a try!

Super strongly recommend. We hosted a dinner at the Smokehouse with over 100 folks during our spring break. Hazen and his team handled it beautifully. Everyone raved about the food, service and and experience. This is a must visit when in Steamboat.

The Smokehouse was recommended by a guy we met at the hot springs. We went after and stayed long enough to look at the menu...the prices were very high.. we saw that in an hour they had a great happy hour and decided to walk the town and come back. Our visit: The waitress was awesome, super friendly and cute! We ordered some sliders and wings... I changed my order to include the french dip special as it sounded soo good. It was good but too small ($12 with dry coleslaw)... anyway the wings recommended by the waitress were good...a bit under cooked as they were very big. but good flavor. We even took some home with us...the owner was very nice about that as it is really not allowed during happy hour.. as it turned out they ended up being all we ate for dinner... so a good decision. Anyway...the place seemed nice and the food was decent. Even the beer prices "during happy hour" were reasonable $3.. The service pushed this up to 4 stars! GOOD JOB!

Great food and excellent service! Pulled pork sandwich was awesome and quick service! Stopped in on my way traveling through for work and I'm glad I did. Will definitely be back whenever I'm in steamboat again.

Great people and great BBQ! My lady and I swung up to Steamboat for the afternoon and needed some quick grub. We had their sliders ($3/ea and large for a slider) and sweet potato fries at their HH (3-6) prices. The pulled pork had a nice smoke ring and good flavor. The brisket was quite fine as well. As a guy that smokes meat I found myself pleasantly surprised to have good meat out here.

    (5)
  • Jim T.

I had the brisket and pulled pork combo dinner and it was delicious. We sat at the bar, the service was good, the bartender was knowledgeable and helpful. The portion size was good, the sides tasty and yes, I would go back for more. The brisket was top notch, I savored every bite. The restaurant itself is on the basic side, but as expected for a smokehouse joint.

We were here on July 18 and the manager was so rude to us and didn't like the fact that you have to pay extra for all the sides if you get a sandwich... Won't come here again

  • Brandon V.

I stopped here without reading any reviews before hand. After reading them they seem mixed but our experience was very good. We ordered the fried okra to start with. It was the largest portion and some of the best okra ever! My order of wings with the desert rub were amazing. My wife and kids all loved their lunch also (French dip and chicken fingers). We even ordered some takeout for later. The service was good. I would recommend this place.

first visit was 11 years ago... return visit Dec 9, 2014... its changed hands but was still very good... try the Okra appetizer... it was very very good... had to fight my wife for it... she had a brisket slider that she loved... it was really a happy hour offering but they made it for her for lunch... they were very accommodating... my impression is just ask for what you want... I had the chili... yum on a cold day...

    (4)
  • Christine M.

Best BBQ I've had in a long time! We started off with the fried okra appetizer and I loved the flavor of the light breading and the fact that all the crunch was from the nice fresh okra. Then I had a pulled pork sandwich; it was smoked perfectly and had such great flavor. I also got baked beans, which I am a bit of a snob about so I could really tell this place knows what they're doing. The other members of my table had the sliced brisket, as tender as I've ever seen it. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the whole experience couldn't have been better; I will tell anyone visiting Steamboat that they will be missing out if they don't stop here for dinner!

The thing that gets me is that Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, etc never have great barbeque. This is beef country, people! Why can't you cook it? With that said, I am from South Carolina and my girth will tell you that I am an expert on BBQ. This place is good, but not the best. I'm sorry, but Carolina BBQ is some of the best. I had the brisket for my main course (lunch) and my wife and I shared an appitizer of burnt ends. The burnt ends were not like burnt ends I am used to. I am used to crispy. These were cooked well and tasted delicious. Even more so in their sauces. The brisket was good and was topped with a very acceptable coleslaw. For the region, this place is great. Compared to true BBQ, it is decent. It is great for the Rocky Mountain region though. I have been a few times and have enjoyed the food each time. Sevice was great, our waitress was awesome. The atmosphere was excellent.

The food and decor are mediocre, the waitstaff can be great or grumpy and distant (as in, where did they go?). Kids love to peel peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. The pulled pork is pretty good, but the sliced brisket is the best thing I've had here. Admittedly the sides are meager. Hey, at least they pour a nice pint of Guiness.

    (2)
  • Mark N.

The place was packed, and the food was great. Very kid friendly. The BBQ Rubin was the best Rubin I've ever had. My wife's pulled pork was good. The beer mugs were chiled to perfection.

This is a great place for a cheap happy hour beer -- $2.50 for one of those big glasses that looks like a margarita glass. Nice! The restaurant serves lots of smoked meat and has a very hunting lodge-type feel to it that come from all the animal heads on the walls -- which are GREAT. Also, there are peanuts on the tables and you can toss the shells on the floor. However, I was not a huge fan of Smokehouse. It's small and very dark -- just one small window in the main room. I felt a bit too enclosed for my taste and, for that reason alone, might refrain from returning. And, for me, that sense of being enclosed (and I'm not claustrophobic -- I love small places) is enough for me to give Smokehouse two stars. They do have a second room that appeared more open, but it was closed today. But it's not all bad. The prices are reasonable, it's a good place for locals to congregate, and the staff are really exceptional. So, I can't say it's bad, but I can't say I'd be back.

Authentic bbq in steamboat. Come here often - locals and tourists favorite. Never a bad meal.

  • Bruce D.

Well, it is mud season, so most places are closed, and little is expected from the ones that are open. This place does not disappoint the little that is expected, it delivers little. Small portions, which in this case was a blessing, I do not think I could have choked down any more than the 2 slices of dry turkey, lack luster slaw, and tasteless beans.

    (2)
  • Nate K.

We come here every year when we visit. Pretty good BBQ, but not the best. Fun atmosphere and friendly staff.

I live for BBQ, eat it all the time, where ever I find it. This place in CO is the real deal, great pulled pork and brisket. The meat is moist, tender and tasty. There's 2 sauces, mild and hot. Their hot sauce adds flavor and a little burn, it's not the crazy hot kind that prevents you from tasting what you're eating. The baked beans are home made, flavorful, and hearty, the peach cobbler is the best I've had, and growing up in NC, I've had some real good cobbler. There's 2 things that could disappoint, the menu is very limited and they don't serve corn bread. In conclusion: top notch food, very nice service, will definitely be back again and again.

  • Doug M.

Smoky! That's the word to describe the Smokehouse, the food, and your clothes when you leave after dinner there. Hope you like peanuts, because there are buckets of peanuts everywhere. A small group of about a dozen of us tried the Smokehouse out on out first night at Steamboat. Most of us liked our food, but my friend was really disappointed in the Chilli. I had the half chicken and found it to be ok. Still, this is a fun place to go for a rowdy crowd that is hungry for pork! I recall lots of dead animal heads on the wall too.

    (3)
  • Michael C.

Ok BBQ for colarado. It's no Famous Daves, but what do you expect in a tourist trap. The ribs are a decent dry rub, but not great Memphis. Definately skip the mashed potatoes and the sausage is decent as well.

Ehhhh...yeah, I'm not sure what all these bad reviews are about....but I guess we all have different tastes? I LOVE BBQ. LOVE LOVE LOVE !! I thought I had found my favorite bbq place in Boulder CO, until I had the food here. DO expect a wait, we went on a Sunday night and were told the wait was 20 minutes. Ended up being close to 40 before some seats at the bar opened up, which we happily took (3 of us). The Burnt ends are amazing. I must repeat that. THE BURNT ENDS........AMAZING!!! HUGE portions....an app for about 2-3 people, it's all meat! SO flavorful......I"d honestly think of next time I go there, getting the burnt ends for my dinner, with maybe a salad or something on the side. My bf's friend got some cheese curds, which he shared. YUMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! Why do they not have this over here on the east coast?!? Never heard of cheese curds, well, at least offered anywhere on a menu. I say YES to the cheese curds. My bf and I split the bbq combo. Heaven. ! Just talking about it is making my mouth water... I WILL come here again next time in Steamboat. That is just a MUST. To each their own, yo! To each, their own...

What a disapointment. We look forward to eating at the smokehouse every summer when we go to Steamboat. This year everything about it disapointed us. The sides (cole slaw, potato salad, and beans) were all terrible. My wife who likes slaw and potato salad almost anywhere wouldn't eat them. I have loved their ribs without any sauce for years, but this year they are totally different. I was really disapointed, but they were OK as ribs, just not what they used to be by a long shot. I doubt we go again. Perhaps we will drive to Haden for BBQ now or do without. There are no free peanus anymore either, so we couldn't even fill up on them when the food was bad. I hate to spend $50 for two and be disappointed.

Hmm...I'm baffled by all the poor reviews. This place is pretty good. The bf and I just had dinner here tonight. Upon being seated, I couldn't stop eating the peanuts offered on the table. Bonus for being able to sweep the shells onto the floor. The place was pretty packed for a Wednesday night. I ordered the brisket sandwich; it was tasty and filling. Of course, I was adding the spicy bbq sauce onto every bite. Our server was pretty friendly and clearly explained that the sauce with the red top was the spicier version. Had a piece of my bf's ribs and it was quite flavorful and smokey. Wanted to try the cobbler for dessert, but I was too full after devouring my meal. An overall good experience and reasonably priced for a ski town. My sandwich was about $9 and the bf's plate of ribs was $17.

I've lived in Colorado (from Houston) for 6 years and this is the BEST BBQ I've ever had in Colorado!!!! You get sat with a bucket of peanuts which you can throw the shells on the ground. Once your dinner arrives they bring some WARM BBQ sauce to the table!!! That was one of the best parts since none of the places I've been to serves it warm!! There was 2 in my party and we got the sausage sandwich and 2 meat combo with turkey and crown brisket (fatty part of the meat). It was ALL delicious!!!!!! Yes, the crown brisket was fatty just as promised but still good! We also had some fried okra with ranch dressing. Will surely come back with family!!!!

Disappointing. The service was Ok, our waiter seemed overwhelmed with our group of 10 adults and 10 13yo kids, even though we came before the dinner rush (around 3:30-4pm) - the restaurant had lots of empty tables, yet he seemed annoyed he had to serve us. He was slow and grumpy and while split the checks in 5 separate bills, he proceeded to add 20% gratuity for himself on each bill. The level of service was not even worth 10% - rude and obnoxious. The food made matters even worse. My pulled pork (sandwich) had no sauce whatsoever - it was just a dry pulled pork with no taste on a hard cold ciabatta bread. The ribs (2 full size racks) were dry and tasteless... What a disappointment for such old establishment to fail to deliver on all grounds. We try to support small unique restaurants as much as possible, avoiding chains, but even Texas Roadhouse chain restaurant serves way better tasting and quality food than Steamboat Smokehouse.

    (1)
  • Andre E.

I can't believe these reviews! If you are going to get BBQ in Steamboat, Smokehouse is the BEST option. It's got a friendly fun atmosphere where you can throw peanut shells on the floor. The serve beer in large Texas pint glasses and 18oz goblets. They have 2 different bbq sauces sitting at your table, one spicer, and they are both delicious! (I contemplate stealing a bottle everytime I'm in there. Huge flatscreen TV that is usually playing ski/snowboarding videos or the big game. The food is simply great. Definitely the best place for ribs (kills Ore House). This may not be the best BBQ joint you've been to, but there's nothing close to as good in Steamboat. Live music on Thursday nights really makes for a great time to grab several beers and take your time eating. always a good time!

well this place was kinda overpriced and kinda had to wait and figure out who worked there. you would think that this being a tourist town it would have better service but I guess im wrong? You can eat peanuts and throw them on the floor which helped me give it another star but the food was over priced and not really worth it. i had the beef brisket and ive had way better. maybe colorado just can't do BBQ The quest continues

We decided to try this restaurant the other day while in SS because we were looking for a BBQ place. It was empty when we got there, but filled up quickly. I had the pulled pork and ribs and my wife had pulled pork and the brisket. The meats were good. The sides were ok. They only had two sauces, mild and hot. The hot was not hot, just a bit spicy. Actually the mild had a better flavor. The service was ok. Our waitress seemed to be preoccupied with a much larger table(bigger tip I guess). Not sure that I would go back again.

Cool "Western" ambiance, but the actual food and portions are a weak imitation of what you'd get at a real Texas BBQ joint. Don't expect too much and you'll be ok. Seems like they brought the food in on a truck in ice chests and are afraid they may run out. Small portions and the last 2 times I've been there the food wasn't even hot when it was served. They seem to have forgotten the saying "everything is bigger in Texas". Service is a toss up, sometimes it's ok, more often they take your order and then they leave you to eat salty peanuts for 30 minutes. Don't wait for the server to cash you out either or you'll be waiting until next ski season. Positives are that the beer is served in nice, bug frozen mugs. TVs on the walls show sports. Overall it's another local restaurant that seems content giving out just barely enough in all categories. I usually leave wondering why I paid so much for so little. Not an uncommon feeling if you dine out in Steamboat.

This is supposed to be the place locals go for good bbq. As someone from the south, this is mediocre at best. I sat at the bar to eat, and the bartender was very gruff and unfriendly. The food comes on a paper plate, and looks like it was sitting in the back for awhile. The bbq was just plain terrible, and they're not friendly if you're not a "local."

We just arrived in Steamboat and was looking for BBQ takeout and relaxing evening at the house... Although The Smokehouse didn't list for bulk orders they couldn't have been more accommodating... 3 LBS of Brisket (Excellent-tender), 3 LBS Pulled Pork (Perfect) 4 Slabs Ribs (Fall off the bone tender) ... POW BBQ Sauce was just right for spice...The Sweet Potato Fries were good as well... The order was ready for pick-up at the time designated... A great start to our week of skiing the "Champaign Powder" of Steamboat!!!!

Don't do it. Maybe the bar is charming for drinking beer and eating peanuts, but the food was terrible. I ordered a salad which was supposed to have bbq'd pork. The salad was like one you'd get at Denny's - the pork flavorless and without sauce - a number of condiments were put on the table - I mean ketchup, some bbq sauce (no explanation of what distinguished one from another and they could easily have been store bought). A single slice of wheat bread (the kind from Safeway) adorned the plate along with a pat of butter in gold foil. Say it ain't so!! Paper plates topped it off and it was not like it was dirt cheap, either. I could not get cell reception or I would have yelped it and found a sure bet, but I hope this will help others veer clear.

Not too sure why the reviews are all so negative - I had a perfectly good BBQ dinner with good service at a fair price (especially for Steamboat). The beef brisket and the pulled pork combo had generous portions and were tender and tasty. Mashed potatoes and beans were generic, but certainly not memorable. The walls are filled with the heads of various animals, which combined with the peanuts shells on the floor, give the place a fun kitch if you're willing to go with it.

I'm from New York so what do I know about ribs? Taking that grain of salt, you have my recommendation for the place. I thought the ribs, wings, and appetizers were all pretty good. The beer came overflowing in a freezing glass. Kids enjoyed munching on peanuts and throwing shells on the floor. Friendly service.

The place was packed, and the food was great. Very kid friendly. The BBQ Rubin was the best Rubin I've ever had. My wife's pulled pork was good. The beer mugs were chiled to perfection.

Glorious.

GOOD JOB!

I really liked the Smokehouse. The staff was very smiley and fun(bartender Megan). The wings were great. I tried the dry rub and the gold. Happy hour deals are smokin'. $3 drafts, $4 wells, half-price apps and wings. I'll be back... Nom-Nom!

Ever since the new owners took over the smokehouse the quality of food has gone through the roof! Plus the portions are ridiculously huge!

I had the Pulled Pork Sandwich: Memphis Style. Delicious. Fast and friendly service.

I hate to spend $50 for two and be disappointed.

well this place was kinda overpriced and kinda had to wait and figure out who worked there. you would think that this being a tourist town it would have better service but I guess im wrong?
